Allred Applauds El Paso on Earning Plan Approval for Job Training Grant Made Possible by CHIPS Act

Dallas, TX — Today, Congressman Colin Allred applauded the City of El Paso on advancing in the process toward securing a major grant through the federal Distressed Area Recompete Pilot Program. El Paso’s $50 million proposal is to create a new job training program to train Texans the skills necessary for STEM and other high demand industries. The Recompete program has bipartisan support, and it was made possible thanks to the CHIPS Act which Allred championed and Ted Cruz voted against.

“This is great news for El Paso and an important step in securing federal funds to help Texans get the skills and training they need to get a good job,” said Allred. “This is exactly why I was proud to support the CHIPS Act, and I will keep working alongside folks in both parties to create jobs, increase opportunity and grow our economy in every corner of our state.”

The grant program will invest $200 million total in communities across America with below- average employment rates. Today’s news means El Paso’s plan will advance to phase 2 of the grant applications process.
