Allred on Cruz Opposing Ukraine and Israel Aid: “Texans deserve a Senator who will put our national security over partisan politics”

DALLAS – After House passage on Saturday, the U.S. Senate today voted to move forward on a bipartisan national security package that included support for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and humanitarian aid for innocent Palestinian civilians in Gaza. The vote was 80-19 with Ted Cruz voting to block passage. Allred, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, supported the House version of the legislation.

“Over the past few days a bipartisan coalition stood up against Putin and in support of Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and delivering much needed humanitarian aid to innocent Palestinian civilians – but Ted Cruz said no,” said Allred. “Every single time Cruz has the opportunity to work across the aisle and get big things done, he instead stands in the way. Texans deserve a Senator who will put our national security over partisan politics.”

Previously, Cruz joined Senate Republicans in a successful effort to block another version of the bill which included the most substantial bipartisan border security package in years, because it would have, in his words, given “political cover” to Democrats.

Allred has long been supportive of humanitarian and foreign aid that will strengthen our national security. He additionally called for comprehensive immigration reform that would secure our border, meet the needs of our economy, and reflect our values as Texans and Americans. He is proud to be a cosponsor of the Dignity Act, a bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform package led by El Paso Congresswoman Veronica Escobar.
