Allred Releases Statement on Cruz Again Voting Against Bipartisan Effort to Keep the Government Open

Dallas, TX — This evening, Congressman Colin Allred released the following statement on Ted Cruz voting against the bipartisan bill that passed by an 88-9 margin to keep the government open, funding that was supported by Republican Senator John Cornyn and is now headed to the President’s desk:

“Sadly, but not surprisingly, Ted Cruz was one of a handful of extremist Senators to vote against today’s bipartisan compromise to keep our government open. He once again chose partisan politics over paying Texas service members and Border Patrol agents, ensuring new moms and their kids have access to food assistance, and helping small business owners across the state.

“We were not hired to podcast. We were elected to make the lives of our constituents better, or at the very least, perform the basic functions of government. Tonight, Ted Cruz once again made clear that he only cares about himself.”

This vote marks the third time in less than two weeks that Ted Cruz voted against widely-supported, bipartisan efforts to prevent a government shutdown. Texas is home to nearly a quarter-million active duty service members and civilian federal employees combined, including TSA officers, Border Patrol agents, and other Customs and Border Protection personnel. Ted Cruz voted to deprive countless employees in these and other agencies their paychecks for an indefinite period of time.
